On August 25, 2012, a great American legend died -- Neil Alden Armstong. He died at the age of 82, shortly after he had surgery for blocked coronary arteries. [still sounds weird, suggestions please?] He is best known for becoming the first US civilian in space as well as landing on the moon and exploring its surface with Buzz Aldrin for two and a half hours.

In 1971, he resigned from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and went onto etching in the department of aerospace engineering at the University of Cincinnati until 1979. Afterwards, he was a company spokesman for Chrystler, General Time Corporation, the Bankers Association of America, and several other American-only owned businesses. He also served on the board of directors of many well known companies like United Airlines and Cinergy.

In the year 1994 and thereafter, he began to decline all requests for autographs because he became aware that a great majority his autographs had been auctioned off instead of enjoyed as memorabilia for his fans to reflect back on meeting him. Lastly, in May of 2005, his barber decided to keep some of the hair he clipped from Neil Armstrong and sold it to a collector for $3,000. Neil Armstrong gave him the options of either donating the money to a charity of Armstrong's choice, giving back the hair, or having legal action taken against him; since the barber could not get the hair back from the collector, he donated the $3,000 to Armstrong's chosen charity.

While having such a great impact on aeronautical technology back during the selection of 'Man in Space Soonest', he seemed to not let his fame get to him. For example, even though he avoided any offers to be a business spokesman, he took up Chrystler's offer because the American owned company was going through financial hardship at the time, and Armstrong was impressed by the American engineering being put into the vehicles. He is probably one of the most honorable men of history right next to [need to verify which polio vaccination maker refused money/trademark/ or maybe licensure of his vaccination I remember seeing it on television once. >,<]
