Within the last week, we've seen the announcement of the latest addition to the Gears of War franchise; Gears of War: Judgment. Epic Games (the producers of the franchise) have made a number of changes to the game which was declared during the E3 showcasing of 2012.

One of these changes may upset Marcus Fenix fans as Damon Baird becomes the protagonist in this campaign. Though we still see a presence of the other characters through the trailer shown at E3 and below this article with the suggestion that Baird will be playing alongside the ‘Cole Train’ (Augustus Cole – ex-professional Thrashball player) and perhaps the other much loved Gears characters will make an appearance within the game. Nevertheless, this should not prevent them from purchasing the Game as we get an insight into the past with this story beginning 14 years before Gears of War 1. This was also around the time when humans first made contact with the Locust species.

A quiet significant change to the multiplayer of the new release involves a new Game type known as “Overrun,†Which still involves the Cog on Locust combat, however, provides a new twist within the gameplay of this new extension. Players will be given the option to choose different classes within their teams. These classes, for Cog, include an engineer, who is the fortifications master in this game, the medic, who is the clinician, the soldier, who is the weapon specialist and the scout, who is the emissary for the Cog. The Locust team has not been fully announced yet, however, we see it contain much diversity (Just like the Cog team), ranging from a Brute Grenadier, who is the aggressive force behind operations, to the ticker, who is a running time bomb. Each class and team will have its own strengths and weaknesses corresponding to another character on the other team; therefore generating a fair and balanced game for all gamers.

Lastly, another change to the game is the add-on to campaign play which includes the introduction of a “Smart Spawn†system, which will randomly spawn the locust army in various different locations within the campaign. This means the fight against the Locust army will not be a wave on wave on wave action to kill the Locust, but now they will spawn in completely randomised areas and will come at the gamer from every angle. This makes the gamer isolated and will now never realise which direction the enemy is coming from; whereas in the previous Gears of War games, the gamer always played ‘moving forward’ Combat (Meaning the Locust would always spawn directly in front of the player, making the game simpler).

Overall, the Gears of War franchise has been the biggest selling 3rd person shooter throughout every game release, and I believe this will be no exception. This product will be one of the best games released during 2013 and will a fantastic conclusion for the 'Epic Games’ production of Gears of War for the Xbox 360. Researchers suggest the Gears career will carry on with the next generation of Xbox

Gears of War: Judgment has not had its released date announced yet, although producers indicate that it will be released during 2013, just 1.5 years after Gears of War 3 was released.
