Star Trek Online: Fourth Anniversary

With the celebration of Star Trek Online’s fourth anniversary, new missions, items, and events are plenty. But the launch of these features didn't quite just arrive, as much as they did crash in. And to add insult to injury, they burnt up all the way in. The new events feature a mission named “A Step Between Stars†in which you are to save a Starfleet admiral from the hands of the Voth. A battle rages above the sun of the Dyson Sphere’s sun between Voth ships and a joint strike force of Romulan, Klingon, and Starfleet warships. Taking your own ship to small station just kilometers below, the Vulcan admiral awaits to be rescued. The mission is a huge hit, and plays out wonderfully until about half way through. When taking an EV suit into the vacuum of space, the game begins its’ crash and burn.

As soon as the player takes their first steps outside of the shield separated them from open space, the screen blinks a few times, before going completely black, and leaving the player no sight apart from the basic HUD. Mini map, weapons, and abilities are still available, but they prove useless when you can’t tell which direction is up. This bug affected a large amount of players in the game, and would force players to re-launch their client just to be able to exit the mission.

The promise of a new ship for players was also compromised, since the completion of the mission was needed to claim the ship. Without being able to complete the mission, players cannot claim the ship. Of course this wouldn't be too much of a problem as long as it were fixed eventually. Problem is, that this event is limited time, and every day lost makes it that much harder for players. If the problem persists, then some will not be able to get the ship.

While this problem is known by the developers, and they are working to fix it, players were rather disappointed. Apart from the bugs in the game, the other features worked just fine and offered part of the experience problem free. For now, it’s something players will have to wait out and hope for the best.

(I would like to apologize for the lack of activity seen from me. The forums haven't been on my side too much. Here's another article to make up for what I can. Another is soon to follow. Sorry for any inconvenience.)
