Alright guys. Input time, tell me how you feel about the minimum post count.

Do you see the positives to it?

Do you see any negatives coming because of it?

Do you feel it should be tweaked, and if yes, how would you tweak it?

I feel like it is still necessary. We did used to see people where their first post is a witness here, so they were really being used by people who needed witnesses for awards they wanted.

Maybe making the minimum count 25 or something more attainable? I know that sounds ridiculous for all of us since we are on here a lot but a majority of members are not.

I do feel like that could dishearten members from using the section, but if they are that easily dissuaded I'm not sure that it really matters.

I do whole heartedly still agree in having a minimum post count though, whether its 40, 30, 20 posts etc. I think it is reasonable to make sure someone at least has seen some knowledge of forums use before they post in a section where they may not know what we are looking for. Like when we get people who say "yes" to an award when they don't get thats for the staff vote. It just helps if people have to cross some threshold. Thats just me.

I think a major positive is that it gets people on the forums more than just getting on to witness for most likely their friend. I don't think it truly shows that a member deserves an award, when they just have some brand new members witness for something that they probably don't know much about.

Do you see any negatives coming because of it?

The negatives that I have seen is that there are some people that have very few posts on the forums, so they are ineligible, even though they may be knowledgeable about the AAP section. This takes away some of the witness statements, but overall I think this isn't a huge deal.

Do you feel it should be tweaked, and if yes, how would you tweak it?

If it were to change I guess I could understand if the minimum post count was dropped slightly, however I'm not sure that it needs to. One thing that I've noticed is that there are a lot of officers with <50 posts, seeings how in order to become an officer you "must" have a forums account(unless that has changed), but that surprises me. I think it has been working since we implemented the minimum post count, but that's just me

For example a 4CPT that only has 30 posts and didn't even read the rules for nominating in AAP. I think I would have to say we keep the minimum post count where it is

I agree with Collector. I think that 40 posts on the forums is very easily attained, especially if one is an officer. Between posting roll call, game night attendance, and workshops among various squad chats and king of the hills.. this really isn't a problem to achieve. Besides that, it gives them general forums knowledge before coming to post in the AAP section... (Not that it always helps, but it's a good buffer.)

how many witnesses are you looking for regarding OS awards? got 7 so far from all types of ranks for pliers but we have a no vote, this is an objective post not subjective, generally wondering the amount we use as a thresh hold

also on a subjective side i am bothered a bit more people didnt write up in there, the guy deals with scores of issues a week

For an OS level 1 the amount, quality and persons who witnessed would be sufficient. For a level 2 I would be wanting closer to the 12-14 mark. That is quality witnesses of course. I am very disappointed as well with the lack of witnesses for Pliers, but what can I do eh

I would agree with Scotland. I was on the fence on voting yes or no, which is why I waited until this afternoon. I feel that even another 2 or 3 real good witness statements would've done it for me.

I can agree with both statements, thanks for clearing it up

Also i dont see the positives out weighing the negatives on the idea of 40 posts to witness, this is a tool(Aap) it brings people to the site, to say someones opinion is less because of time on the site will discourage activity imo

I agree wholeheartedly however the entire reason the Minimum count is in place is due to people winning OTMs and awards based on people with one post, posting.

If they are creating an account and post specifically because they have been told to, then they are not really voicing their opinion.

I feel that this is an abuse of the system and of new members.

For example: If someone witnesses for a mentor award, but has only 1/2 posts. This tells me either they are just getting involved or have just been recruited... or they have been told to do it.

I am open to lowering the minimum slightly, however with the reasoning above I will not be removing it.

I would be open to having a limit on the higher tier awards and oty/otm's, but i would hate to cause someone an award or the chance to get more people on here over a mentor award (using that award as a demonstration due to newer members being mentes)

Alright, I get that, and you made a valid and interesting suggestion there.

So lets say as an example I have under 40 posts eligible for Helping hand & member assistance, then over 40 for out standing service awards & mentor. (Just an example) How would you feel about that?

i woulld be much more okay with that, as long as we made it a publicly acknowledged thing prior to doing it

I can do that. Maybe @True 7 a news story and then air it in social media as well?

So I know some changes are in the future with the post count requirement, but still 40 for now? Skarz has 2 witnesses under 10 posts is only reason I ask.

As of right now I haven't changed anything

Not sure if I mentioned it or not, but I will be going on vacation to Colorado tonight through the weekend. Most likely I won't be on the forums, I'll be back online Monday.

  • 2 weeks later...

Alright guys, on top of staff additions coming here shortly and the above proposed changes to the minimum post count, I will be starting OTY prep by the end of this week.

I need to discuss with the board what they'd like to do this year, however as you know I like to take into account your opinions, what are your ideas/ thoughts on the Of the Years for this year?

As always please be as open and blunt as possible, I only cry sometimes.
